Get “house-ready” — Physically create space to reach and access your Haggadot and Pesadik items. Don’t confuse clearing chametz with Spring cleaning!

Prepare mentally — Add meaning to your preparations and remind yourself of holiday themes. You don’t have to feel like a slave leading up to Passover to appreciate freedom.

Spruce up for Spring

Gardeners create curb appeal with Spring colors, lay a mulched foundation to dramatic effect, and prune dead wood from the outdoors. Let us help you turn that same attention to detail in your closet…and to YOU.

Kitchen De-Cluttering for Passover

Decluttering can (and should) happen year round. With Passover less than three weeks from now, it is time to make space for the holiday. Kelly already started to CLEAR space, CLEAR cabinets, and get CLEAR on what we need (to use up before Passover — and purchase for the holiday).

Kelly's baking cabinet full (and disorganized) in need of a Spring Cleaning.
Kelly’s baking cabinet full (and disorganized) in need of a Spring Cleaning.

Check expiration dates.
• toss spoiled food or open items that won’t get used.

List what kosher-for-Passover items you already have.
• create your shopping list

Eliminate items that are not chametz (leavened) from the cabinets.
• move it to an overflow pantry area
• donate to a food pantry if it doesn’t match your family’s taste

Kelly's cabinet much emptier in preparation for the holiday.
With less IN the cabinet, it is easier to see what to use up AND there’s now room to store items you don’t need OUT for Passover.

Assess what chametz items remain to consume.
• find creative ways to use up your pantry ingredients
• bring the least amount of new food in

Repeat this process for each area where food is stored.

Shoot for “Less is More”

March Madness 2016 logoWhile I don’t personally know enough about college basketball teams to predict who will win this year’s March Madness Tournament, I do follow the excitement as my family creates detailed brackets and fans bet on their top picks.

In my play book, we are all winners when we follow organizing rules inspired by the concept:

Less is More orange
The less you stress…the more freedom you gain.
The less you buy…the more financial resources you maintain.

Make your own play and create MORE in your life with these tips:

M – More clarity in your priorities gives you more time and space for life.
A – Anyone can become organized when you structure your time.
R – Review your next day’s schedule the night before to eliminate surprises.
C – Carve out time daily for exercise, nutrition and sleep.
H – Handle any task that will take less than 2 minutes – now!

M – Make physical AND mental space in your life.
A – Add breathing room into your schedule for delays and transitions.
D – Delegating is a skill worth learning – develop a team mentality.
N – NAPO.net is your go-to for help if some rules seem beyond your reach.
E – Easy access is your goal for anything you use on a daily basis.
S – Simplify one area of your life today.
S – Stay focused on priorities for big playoffs…I mean big PAY-offs 🙂

Joy’s Fashion Do’s and Don’ts

Joy is a master at working with all ages to determine and teach what is the best LOOK and FIT for you. She has a great eye, she’s sensitive to fabric, color, and pattern, and she pays attention to details.

Joy in her happy place, surrounded by clothing and accessories.

While Joy is naturally stylish…she is also a teacher at heart. She knows how to show you what’s best ON YOU. Her experience making her own clothes (and young Kelly’s) and her study of design have sharpened her eye to the “architecture” of silhouettes.

Follow Joy’s Fashion Advice:

  1. Invest in foundation pieces – these are the basics in your wardrobe
  2. Use seasonal accessories to your advantage to stay fresh and current
  3. Admit when it’s time to shift sizes up or down — including undergarments
  4. Be honest about what you don’t wear…even if it’s new
  5. Take care of your clothes: hang, fold, and properly clean items
  6. Know where to look for deals (or ask Joy!)

  1. DON’T: Compromise fit
  2. DON’T: Sacrifice comfort
  3. DON’T: Wear anything that doesn’t make you feel good
  4. DON’T: Dwell on bad purchases
  5. DON’T: Keep things in your primary spaces that don’t fit
  6. DON’T: Wait too long to donate or offer clothes for resale

Joy can tell you what is destined for donation or worthy of resale:
The more current your giveaways, the more benefit they bring recipients. You also earn more at resale. We love turning your closet clutter into cash.

We Are (Environmentally) Green

Green can mean different things like envious or brand new. We are neither.
We are environmentally responsible.

To save the earth from needless trash, we recycle and repurpose client donations. We find homes for things that still have life after you say they can’t live in yours.

Our favorite local, free, and convenient donation drop-off site. Items benefit others and steer clear of landfills.

We donate everything kid appropriate to C2C at their Old Navy donation locations and their warehouse in Conshohocken. Children’s books, school supplies, clothing, and toys are always on their wish list.

Ebay and Auction:
Recoup cash for items cluttering your home, closet, and office with our resale resources.

Where to Store Your Stuff

Realtors will tell you location is everything. Organizers agree! Everything you own deserves a home.

Beach-Front property is your most valuable space: When you use something on a daily basis you can’t afford to lose time searching for and reaching these things. Find the best spot for these high-use, high value items. Imagine you are literally at the beach…nothing should block your view.
• Clear everything else away so the focus on your essentials.
• Be consistent replacing this stuff to its proper home after each use.
• Don’t allow a single barrier to get between you and
it.
We want you to be comfortable going on “auto-pilot” reaching for your reading glasses, car keys, and daily meds.

Prime real estate is your next level of valuable space: You need access to these items on a weekly basis so if you have to stack, put primary use items ON TOP. Make sure you can easily see, grab, use these books, tools and clothes. Think:
• Eye-level shelving

• Top desk drawers
• Easiest-to-reach sections of your closet

Out of sight or remote locations may require effort to reach because they’re less frequently or even rarely accessed. Categories include previous years taxes in basement file cabinets and off-season clothing in attic bins. Camp duffles and holiday decorations fit this category.
• Put monthly items in easier reach than seasonal
• Give seasonal items better access than annual

Leave Less to Memory:

If you fear out of sight means out of mind, we suggest you create a list recording “Where it Lives.” It could be as simple as:
• a word document on your computer
• an electronic note on your phone
• a hand-written note inside a relevant filed folder
We like anything that jogs your memory for:
—  foreign currency for your next trip
—  headrests for a car’s back seat if you removed them for extra trunk space
—  the charger for pooch’s invisible fence

It’s okay to let go:

If, while you are assigning homes and deciding where things should live, you realize…“I don’t need this is my life anymore” — Let it Go!

Put That Back – Where it Belongs

We’re not talking about that second cookie…
We mean anything that is out of place:
Clean laundry – Make room in your dresser.
The blow-up bed – Store it in the linen closet.
Your latest (impulse) purchase – Take it back.
Sue’s platter from hosting book club – Return it.

When too many things remain out:
• out of their regular storage home
• out of their packaging
• in the hallway
• on your desk — instead of filed away…
bad things can happen.

Worse than the item getting lost or damaged (and un-returnable), it gets in your way. It distracts you from your commitment to keep surfaces clear. It can become a magnet, attracting more things that haven’t been put back. And then you’re in a state of overwhelm.

What can you put back today?
Pick one room, one surface, one item and put it back:
• on its shelf
• with its original owner

• or returned to the store

Your reward will be greater than the refund, or the thanks from your friend…You will gain freedom from your stuff!

Tell us what you’re putting back today.
